About

Welcome to the Xennial Night Owl!

My primary motivation for writing this newsletter is to bring a little reality into the increasingly unreal online worlds we inhabit, willingly or unwillingly.

I have things to say that I hope people will relate to, because I would if someone said them to me (and I wish they would). Things like… well, all the things I realize I’m doing “wrong” in adulthood, like not going to bed early even though society demands that I get up early every morning (which I hate) or letting my daughter watch too many screens or existing in a perpetually messy house. This is me. (Also, “wrong” isn’t always wrong, it’s often totally ok but gets tripped up by societal constructs and dubious ideas of morality.)

I'm an artist, a writer, a voracious reader, an aspiring (and studying) personal trainer, a recovering lawyer, a mom to an only child (one and done and I’ll tell you why this was the best decision FOR ME). My favorite colors are black and all neon. I'm obsessed with platform shoes. I have generalized anxiety and depressive disorders, and my therapist has changed my life. I love fitness and train hard but I don't necessarily look like it because I also really, really like wine and cheese.

Here's what I want to share:
• Anecdotes that might make you feel better about your own
"wrong" ways of being;
• Reflections on parenting;
• What being "fit" in middle age really means (from someone who
does not look like a fitness influencer);
• Affirmations that are not nauseating; and
• Wisdom I've gathered and distilled from all the iterations of my
career.
• Also, I'll include a copy of an original art piece, if you like it,
keep it, if you don't, use the back for a grocery list.

Mostly I just want to write real and hope that it makes other people feel seen.

Like many of you, I suspect, I am constantly riding alternating waves of empowerment, uncertainty, enthusiasm, crippling anxiety, and pondering what I want to be when I grow up. Occasionally a seagull shits irritability into the mix.
